Rev. Sybil Chetty


Rev. Chetty grew up in Bishop Lavis/ Cape Town where she attended primary and high school. She then studied at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Umphumulo, where she obtained a Bachelor of Theology Degree. From there she moved to the University of KwaZulu/Natal at Pietermaritzburg, where she obtained Honours and Masters Degrees in Theology. After an Internship at the Hayfields Lutheran Church Rev.Chetty was placed at Immanuel Parish in Phoenix/Durban. She started working in Durban Central Parish in January 2010. Rev.Sybil Chetty is married to Rev.Chundran Chetty, parish pastor of St.John’s Parish/ Durban. They have 2 children. Her favourite Bible Verse is from Romans 12 v.2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

The Durban Central Parish is led by the Parish Council. The clergy comprises of the parish pastor, a second full-time pastor, a pastor in the tent-making ministry (self-supporting), and a retired pastor.
